New York City, Great Gildersleeves - 22.4.1980.  (Thanks Mick)

Apart from the New York Palladium gig two days previously, this has to be the top bootleg from the US tour. The intimacy of the venue has a great effect on the band/audience interaction. Lydon is not so hostile as at some of the other dates on the tour. The show must also have been recorded with a pretty decent recorder, or a decent microphone at least as there aren't the usual distortion problems created by Wobble's thundering Ovation.

Almost as entertaining as the music are the numerous audience member comments that can be over heard on the tape. Like when Lydon says: "Turn a fan on, it's so fucking hot up here." we hear the reply; "Aw, you'll live."

Or the gentleman who seems to be much impressed by Wobble's abilities; "He's a fucking great bass player! I wanna hear their new album! Wobble! Wobble! ... I'd like to know who the drummer is!"

After Memories Lydon and Levene sod off and leave Atkins and Wobble to knock out a version of Fodderstompf until they return to finish with a second version of Public image.

A major plus with this tape is that there is only 1 tape cut. Probably the only PiL bootleg I've heard where that's the case.

Said tape cut occurs between Fodderstompf and Public image 2.
